Description

Climbing at Williston Lake

July 15-19th

In partnership with Michelle and Andrew Neis who have been building sport climbing routes at Crags in Williston Lake, we are building our first climbing trip out to this remote area.

Where is Williston Lake? This man made lake is situated in North East BC, and runs along the Northern Rocky Mountains. To get to the Crag, a boat ride is mandatory. We have chartered a boat ride from Williston Lake Outfitters that will pick us up in Hudson’s Hope. From Hudson Hope it is a 2 hour trip to the camp spot.

This is a remote backcountry location with no amenities. The camp spot will have an outhouse and a bear fence surrounding the camp. This is a camp and climb trip. We do have options for dehydrated meals from Wild Mountain Eats to choose from and your host, Untamed Tours will provide your first FRESH dinner at camp.

To keep groups small, we have also hired Ben Brochu from Hinterland Outdoors to be our third boatman. Ben is an accomplished guide and fisherman and we can count on having a fish fry for at least one meal. Ben also allows us to provide a few extra services such as running his boat up inlets for fishing, crossing the lake for hiking, or just taking a half day scenic ride around the lake.

Our Guide:

Ethan is currently an ACMG Apprentice Rock Guide and working towards his Apprentice Alpine Guide certification. Exploration and adventure in the mountains led him to rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing and backcountry skiing and continue to be his favourite pastimes. New routing and first ascents have become a highlight, with many first ascents last year alone. The combination of technical climbing and exploration of never before explored rock faces fuel him and provide goals for the next season.

Some of his First Ascents are

Tan’si Tower

  • No Lights on Fridays 5.8 A0 (5.10) 340m Trad
  • Rockies Ringlock 5.9 125m Trad
  • Filthy with Minerals 5.8 140m Trad

Mount Abraham

  • East Ridge of Mt Abraham, 5.10c 9p 300m Trad
    • Starts by navigating for 400m through towers along the ridge, followed by 9 pitches of traditional climbing with two 5.10 pitches guarding the final easier ground.
Getting to Hudson’s Hope

If you need to travel to Hudson’s Hope the day prior, we suggest staying at the Stillwater Inn or camping at Cameron Lakes

Trip Cancellations – including wildfire disruptions – we HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRIP INSURANCE

We understand that occasionally events occur that prevent you from joining us for your vacation.  Life is full of surprises and so is travel! You can’t predict a missed flight connection, job loss, death of a family member or your own illness or injury.  When an unexpected event prevents you from travelling, Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption reimburses travel costs if your trip is cancelled before you leave or disrupted after it has begun.

Please pay special attention to our Cancellation and Refunds Terms.

To avoid any financial hardship that an unexpected cancellation or interruption could cause, we strongly recommend purchasing Trip Cancellation/Interruption to protect your trip investment. Trip Cancellation/Interruption costs about 6% of your trip cost and it’s worth the peace of mind!

It’s important to purchase insurance before known risks present themselves to you. Contact our preferred provider Acera Insurance  and they can provide you with a quote for both Emergency Medical insurance and/or Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance.
