Course Description
Paddle in the Untamed Wilderness of Tumbler Ridge BC
Skills + River Tour = Winning Combo
Are you wanting to “up your paddle board game?” Would you like to paddle rivers and feel confident in your skills? Join us for this 4 day progressive course with 3x Mountain Games SUP GOLD medalist Reta Boychuk and your favorite local SUP instructor & guide Danielle Roscher. We will guide participants from flatwater to moving with the flow on Class I/II Rivers and put it all together with an overnight adventure surrounded by the beautiful mountain ranges of Tumbler Ridge BC.
During our course nights we put up the participants on our fabulous vacation home, The Hideaway. With three beds, two baths and sleeping for 8, this cozy and comfortable home tucked up in the hills on the Upper Bench, charms all its visitors. We also save the Wolverine Chalet as our second Guest house to sleep up to 8 as well. The Chalet has a hot tub too!
Why stay with the team? Because we want to teach you all kinds of extra stuff in the evenings, check your gear and have those vital conversations about what a river tour entails.
This is also a great team bonding experience, a platform for personal growth and a chance to meet new friends.
If you really need your own room and private space, you can stay at the Trend Hotel which is also very comfortable.
Goals
This course will grow participants’ flatwater SUP skills and progress to paddling comfortably in a river current, reading rivers and even tackle overnight trips. We will focus on skill building and the important safety fundamentals of river paddling. Participants will learn about eddies and how to use them to stop and slow down, river hazards and how to avoid them, and required gear, packing, preparation and logistics.
Outcomes
After completing this course, participants can expect to feel comfortable and confident taking personal (unguided) SUP trips on Class I/II Rivers. They will also have developed an understanding of the potential hazards, along with a variety of new skills and experience that can apply to the moving water environment and any outdoor adventure.
