Our Guide, Ethan Woodside (on right)

Our guide has been hired to assist climbers in a variety of ways, including leading, setting up ropes, coaching, and choosing appropriate routes for clients. Ethan is currently an ACMG Apprentice Rock Guide and working towards his Apprentice Alpine Guide certification. Exploration and adventure in the mountains led him to rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing and backcountry skiing and continue to be his favourite pastimes. New routing and first ascents have become a highlight, with many first ascents last year alone. The combination of technical climbing and exploration of never before explored rock faces fuel him and provide goals for the next season.

Some of his First Ascents are

Tan’si Tower

  • No Lights on Fridays 5.8 A0 (5.10) 340m Trad
  • Rockies Ringlock 5.9 125m Trad
  • Filthy with Minerals 5.8 140m Trad

Mount Abraham

  • East Ridge of Mt Abraham, 5.10c 9p 300m Trad
    • Starts by navigating for 400m through towers along the ridge, followed by 9 pitches of traditional climbing with two 5.10 pitches guarding the final easier ground.

The Boats

Where is Williston Lake? This man made lake is situated in North East BC, and runs along the Northern Rocky Mountains. To get to the crag, a boat ride is mandatory. We have chartered a boat ride from Williston Lake Outfitters that will pick us up in Hudson’s Hope. From Hudson Hope it is a 2 hour trip to the camp spot.

To keep groups small, we have arranged for 3 zodiac boats to use for belay stations. The routes and crags are directly beneath the water so a boat belay is part of the package. Ben Brochu from Hinterland Outdoors to be our third boatman. Ben is an accomplished guide and fisherman and we can count on having a fish fry for at least one meal. Having Ben also allows us to provide a few extra services such as running his boat up inlets for fishing, crossing the lake for hiking, or just taking a half day scenic ride around the lake.

What is included in the package?

  1. Charter Boat Ride to and from the Crag with Williston Lake Outfitters
  2. Camp Spot at Michelle and Andrew’s “place on the lake” (includes outhouse and bear fence)
  3. Insured and certified ACMG Rock Guide, Ethan Woodside
  4. Boat Belay stations
  5. Extra boat for small excursions
  6. Lunch stop and tour of Williston Lake Outfitters on the ride home
  7. Options for dehydrated meals with Wild Mountain Eats (extra/meal)
